There are several new laws that came into effect in July, 2010. Lawmakers working together approved 115 of them; among the topics are child support, agricultural, gun control, school funding, government reform, and additional related job initiatives. Listed below are some of these new laws:
- Sales of Alcohol- Anyone purchasing alcohol must show picture ID unless they look 50 or older. This was a goal of legislators to make it easy for clerks to ask for proof. Some people think it is wasting time to make someone of legal age show proof and the underage drinkers will get alcohol from other sources anyway. Alcohol can be purchased on Sundays 7 AM – 3 AM and also on election days.
- Teenage Drivers- A teenager wanting to get their driver’s license is now required to wait until they become 16 1/2 years of age.
- Taking Guns to Work- Anyone possessing a gun permit is allowed to keep their gun inside their vehicle even while on their work site. This new law does not apply to persons working a daycare or school.
- Collecting Child Support- Horse racing and casino facilities now are required to hold cash winnings of anyone having delinquent payments of child support. This new law applies to persons owing $2,000 or over and child support is 3 months delinquent.
- Sexting and Teens- Under this new law schools can offer classes on the consequences and risks of sending e-mails, text messages, and other messages online that are suggestive.
- Posting Warning Signs in Pharmacies- Retailers and pharmacies that sell drugs containing pseudo ephedrine or ephedrine are now required to put up signs to warn customers that buying more than 3.6 grams in one day becomes a criminal offense. These drugs are found in different medications for a cold.
