Defending Your Rights

Every person has a certain set of rights. The practice of law generally deals with that large gray line between where one person’s rights end and another person’s rights begin. Unlike in a comic book, there are no “bad guys” who have only the right not to be killed on their way to jail when the spandex-clad good guys arrive on the scene to wipe the floor with them. In the real world, there are no superheroes.

However, there are civil attorneys. These individuals see to it that when one person causes another injury, the injured party’s rights are respected. While some people perceive that attorneys just try to collect a paycheck, it isn’t really about that. A person may go a week or more without being able to work if they’re injured, and this can seriously dampen just about anyone’s finances. Getting paid to be injured isn’t the goal, but getting on with a reasonably comfortable life is. Sitting in a hospital bed is naturally going to be a combination of boredom and stress.

However, it gets even worse if the injured person doesn’t know how they’re going to pay for their health care. Since a lot of people are uninsured, whether by choice or not, their injuries may not be covered by anybody at any time if they don’t take some kind of action against those who caused their injuries. There is often no other way to get things paid for, and avoid ruining their credit with debts they can’t possibly pay. It becomes a vicious cycle after awhile, and often entails not being able to pay for anything.
